caring for Nassy

To ensure your Nassy London pieces remain as beautiful as the day they arrived, we recommend following the care instructions below. With the right attention, your silk will retain its softness, lustre, and timeless elegance for years to come.

Is it silk or washable silk?

They are not the same! “Washable silk” is a specific kind of silk that has been pre-treated or made in a way that can withstand washing. If your silk is labeled “dry clean only,” or if it doesn’t mention anything about being washable, treat it as a delicate item and do not put it in the washing machine.

At Nassy London, we craft our pieces from luxurious 19 momme Mulberry silk that should always be hand washed gently or taken to a trusted dry cleaner.

Do not machine wash

We don’t recommend you wash your Nassy London pieces this way, but if you trust your washing machine and usually wash your delicates in it, these are our tips:

  • It is very important that you use a specialist silk detergent. Non-specialist detergents often contain harsh chemicals that can damage the color and finish of silk garments.
  • Please choose a gentle ‘hand wash’ cycle and set the temperature to cold. Never wash delicate fabrics over 30°C. The cooler the water, the longer the silk will last and the better it will feel coming out of the machine.
  • Avoid using any stain removers.

This does not apply to dry-clean only items. Always check your care label before washing.

Hand washing silk

Silk is a protein fiber, like your hair. It doesn’t need strong soaps or intense scrubbing to get clean.

If you choose to hand wash your silk:

  • Use cold water and a silk-safe detergent (or even gentle shampoo).

  • Do not wring or twist. Gently press water out of the garment using a clean towel.

Lay flat or hang on a padded hanger to dry—never in direct sunlight.

Air drying & ironing

Hang your silks to air dry and never put any of your Nassy London garments in the tumble dryer.

Iron or steam your silk to restore lustre and sheen. Use your iron’s delicate or lowest heat setting.
Always iron on the reverse side of your garment. If you need to iron directly on the front, place a cotton cloth over the area to protect the silk.

Is it colorfast?

Before washing, it’s best to test for colorfastness. Dampen a white cloth and press it against an inside seam—if the color transfers, your item should only be dry cleaned.

Extra care

Embroidered, embellished, or velvet pieces require dry cleaning only due to the delicate nature of these fabrics. We do not recommend ironing these pieces. If necessary, carefully steam them with a handheld steamer to avoid any pulls or damage.

Eco-friendly tips

We are committed to extending the life of your garments while being mindful of our impact.

  • You probably don’t need to wash your silk as often as you think. Silk is naturally moisture-wicking and anti-bacterial. Spot clean when possible.

  • Air dry instead of tumble drying.

  • Use eco-conscious dry cleaners when professional care is needed.
